Joining Together for School Safety
In this impactful video, Ohio Department of Public Safety Director Andy Wilson, along with Union County Sheriff Jamie Patton, and Ottawa Hills Police Chief John Wenzlick, discuss the importance of taking school threats seriously and the severe consequences they can have on individuals and communities.
The Ohio School Safety Center, Buckeye State Sheriffs' Association (BSSA) , and Ohio Association of Chiefs of Police (OACP) have partnered up to encourage students to engage in safe behaviors and want students, parents, and community members to know the risks of making threats to school safety.
“The Ohio Association of Chiefs of Police joins the Ohio School Safety Center and the Ohio Department of Public Safety to remind everyone to “Say Something” by reporting any threat to the safety of students, schools or the community. Together we can make a difference," Donna Harrass, Executive Director of OACP.
Topics Covered:
The repercussions of joking about violence in schools.
Legal consequences for making threats, even as pranks.
The lasting impact on one's future and opportunities.
The importance of reporting safety concerns rather than sharing them on social media.
"In a world where our choices shape our future, remember that threats, regardless of their intent, hold serious consequences. In Ohio, the repercussions range from legal penalties to jeopardizing your dreams. It's a reminder that threats of violence are no laughing matter," Bob Cornwell, Executive Director, BSSA.
The OSSC encourages everyone to play a role in maintaining a safe learning environment for our students. Together, we can make a difference in preventing threats and ensuring a brighter future for all.
Remember, safety begins with you!
